Electropical hits the decade mark this November, and we’re planning a 10th anniversary / finale party to celebrate!
Saturday, November 15 marks the 10th anniversary of ELECTROPICAL!
We (DJs Marc Fournier and Michael Laycock) are preparing a special night to celebrate a decade of our groundbreaking worldbeat dance party and mark the start of exciting new directions.
Many of the percussionists who have accompanied us on stage during the last 10 years will work their magic throughout the night, adding a vital live element to our selections of urban sounds with a tropical edge.
ELECTROPICAL is one of the longest-running DJ nights in Vancouver, born out of two previous club nights — DJ Marc’s AFRODISIA at the ANZA Club, and DJ Michael’s GLOBALICIOUS at the Media Club.
Over the years, ELECTROPICAL has packed many dance floors and launched many long-time friendships as we’ve shared our passion for global music and good vibes. It’s been an incredible run, and we feel extremely gratified that so many great people have come along with us for the ride.
We have fresh new projects in the works, and we’ve decided to end in style and wrap up ELECTROPICAL with this 10-year anniversary / finale party at the Backstage Lounge.
We look forward to celebrating with our many guests, friends, and dancers who have supported ELECTROPICAL over the past decade.
Mark your calendars now for the next edition of Electropical on Saturday, October 18 at the Backstage Lounge.
We’ll serve up scintillating sounds from the five continents to the most open-minded and diverse crowd in Vancouver.
This month’s sonic itinerary includes stops in Cairo, Paris, and Mexico City, just for starters.
Summer’s not over yet, so we’ll keep the sounds of the season coming at the September edition of Electropical.
New and classic tracks this month from Barcelona, Beirut, and Buenos Aires.
And we’ll dig deep into our ever-expanding collections of African rhythms, Arabian waves, Balkan bangers, Brazilian beats, and Caribbean sounds to keep you moving.
We’re just taking a quick break from watching the World Cup to announce the first boarding call for Electropical on Saturday, July 19.
Departing from the Backstage Lounge, our sonic itinerary includes stops in Angola, Benin, and Cuba, for starters…
We’re excited to have Sacha Levin back as our guest percussionist at Electropical on Saturday, June 14.
Sacha currently performs, records, and teaches with some of Vancouver’s top musicians. Skilled in African and Latin percussion, she has performed and toured throughout B.C. and the rest of Canada. She last appeared at Electropical in November.
If you haven’t seen Sacha in action before, you’re in for a treat. Don’t miss out.
She’ll accompany us as we spin our signature mix of African rhythms, Arabian waves, Brazilian beats, Caribbean sounds, and Balkan bangers.
New and classic tracks this month from Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Spain.
I’ve been meaning to put together a salsa mix for a while now. After all, salsa always gets people onto the dance floor at Electropical.
Of course, being an Electropical mix, these are tracks that give salsa a healthy, playful, global kick in the ass. A few are from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Colombia, but the rest hail from Senegal, Turkey, India, France, and beyond.
Enjoy, and see you Saturday, May 17 when Electropical returns to the Backstage Lounge!
Electropical May 2014 Salsa Mix by Michael Laycock on Mixcloud
We’re happy to announce that Chris Couto of acclaimed local band Kutapira will be our guest on percussion at Electropical on Saturday, May 17.
And as if that weren’t enough, we’ll also be celebrating the Victoria Day long weekend and the return of DJ Michael Laycock’s 25th birthday.
Join Michael and DJ Marc Fournier at the Backstage Lounge on Saturday, May 17 as they spin birthday beats from the five continents.
Another lap around the sun, and a new milestone has begun…
