Worldbeat Sessions May 2015 mix by Michael Laycock on Mixcloud

Worldbeat Sessions is back Sat May 16 with guests Tasteoftee and Yoro Noukoussi at Backstage Lounge

The second edition of Worldbeat Sessions happens Saturday, May 16 at the Backstage Lounge, and DJ Michael Laycock (Electropical) is excited about sharing the stage for the first time with guest DJ Tadaaki Hozumi (Vancouver Groove Movement, Back Ground Music Discotheque).

tasteoftee_and_yoro

Tadaaki Hozumi (Tasteoftee) and Yoro Noukoussi

Tadaaki (aka Tasteoftee) is the creative force behind gigs such as Joy and Pain, Motown Philly, and The Bump, and co-producer of Love Supreme. Originally hailing out of YYZ and now relocated to YVR, Tadaaki is a selector of the finest sounds who revels in journeys of space and time, from sunny Brazilian bossa to the underground disco sounds of 70s New York.

So in round two of Worldbeat Sessions, we’ll dig into the roots of Latin dance music — salsa, cumbia, merengue, the Fania Records catalogue, and butt-shaking Afro-Latin sounds from Colombia and beyond. We’ll spin modern remixes of those classics, and a few musical twists, too.

And back for the second edition of Worldbeat Sessions is percussionist and long-time Electropical collaborator Yoro Noukoussi. Originally from Benin, Yoro travelled and studied in Africa and Europe before settling in Vancouver and opening his own recording studio, Waaba Music Studios. He is a master drummer and a crowd favourite. Continue reading
