Worldbeat Sessions returns Sat Nov 19 with guests DJ Oga Rossco and percussionist Yoro Noukoussi

worldbeat_sessions_flyer_cs5_nov2016_rossco_yoroJoin DJ Michael Laycock (Electropical), guest DJ Oga Rossco (Strictly Afrobeats), and percussionist Yoro Noukoussi on Saturday, November 19 at the Backstage Lounge for the return of Worldbeat Sessions – a night of danceable global grooves.

In round ten of Worldbeat Sessions, we’ll go deep into the space where African, Latin, funk, and electronic music meet as we explore the grooves we have in common.

Guest DJ Oga Rossco produces the Strictly Afrobeats parties at Fortune Sound Club. Born and raised in Nigeria, he moved to Vancouver in 2006. Soon after, he discovered his passion for music. Today, he’s a rising personality in the Nigerian and African communities. He’s well known for his versatile and open-minded approach to all genres of music, such as trap, hip-hop, Afrobeat, reggae, and much more.

DJ Michael Laycock launched Worldbeat Sessions in March 2015 and has shared the stage with some of the city’s best selectors of global grooves (including DJs Hubbz, Bassos Rancheros, Kut Gomez, and Nils, to name just a few). In late 2014, he wrapped up a decade-long run as co-producer of Electropical (with DJ Marc Fournier), an acclaimed monthly worldbeat dance party.

Originally from Benin, Yoro Noukoussi travelled and studied in Africa and Europe before settling in Vancouver and opening his own recording studio, Waaba Music Studios. He is a master drummer and a long-time Electropical favourite.

With Worldbeat Sessions, Michael teams up with an evolving roster of worldbeat DJs and musicians to explore the global soundscape. From Latin to funk, Arabian to Balkan, and Indian to African, each edition of Worldbeat Sessions is a new international dance floor journey.

Worldbeat Sessions starts around 10 pm (when the play ends next door) at the Backstage Lounge, 1585 Johnston St, Granville Island. Cover: $10. Groups are always welcome.
