CubAfrica returns Sat Oct 22 with guest percussionists Israel Toto Berriel and Yoro Noukoussi at Backstage Lounge

cubafrica_22oct16After a successful first edition in August, DJ Marc Fournier is thrilled to present a second edition of CubAfrica with percussion masters Israel Toto Berriel from Cuba and Yoro Noukoussi from Benin.

Virtually all Cuban music has been influenced by African rhythms. Cuban popular music has strands from both Spain and Africa, woven into a unique Cuban cloth.

Replying back to its source, in the 1950s, Cuban music had a big influence on the music of West and Central Africa, completing a circle where dancing rhythms are kings and queens.

A dance party like no other.

CubAfrica starts around 10:30 pm (when the play ends next door) at the Backstage Lounge, 1585 Johnston St, Granville Island. Cover: $10. Groups are welcome.
