In round ten of Worldbeat Sessions, we’ll go deep into the space where African, Latin, funk, and electronic music meet as we explore the grooves we have in common.

Guest DJ Oga Rossco produces the Strictly Afrobeats parties at Fortune Sound Club. Born and raised in Nigeria, he moved to Vancouver in 2006. Soon after, he discovered his passion for music. Today, he’s a rising personality in the Nigerian and African communities. He’s well known for his versatile and open-minded approach to all genres of music, such as trap, hip-hop, Afrobeat, reggae, and much more.

CubAfrica returns Sat Oct 22 with guest percussionists Israel Toto Berriel and Yoro Noukoussi at Backstage Lounge

cubafrica_22oct16After a successful first edition in August, DJ Marc Fournier is thrilled to present a second edition of CubAfrica with percussion masters Israel Toto Berriel from Cuba and Yoro Noukoussi from Benin.

Virtually all Cuban music has been influenced by African rhythms. Cuban popular music has strands from both Spain and Africa, woven into a unique Cuban cloth.

Replying back to its source, in the 1950s, Cuban music had a big influence on the music of West and Central Africa, completing a circle where dancing rhythms are kings and queens.
