Celebrate your Victoria Day weekend in tropical style at Worldbeat Sessions. Join DJ Michael Laycock (Electropical), guest DJ Ernesto “Kut” Gomez (Tropidelica), and percussionist Raphael Geronimo (Rumba Calzada) on Saturday, May 21 as they kick off the second year of this night of danceable global grooves.
The May edition of Worldbeat Sessions surfs a Latin wave along the shores where cumbia, electronica, and Afro-Cuban music meet.
Ernesto “Kut” Gomez is a cross-genre DJ, musician, and producer based in Vancouver. He’s part of Tropidelica, a DJ trio (with El Garzita and Mr. Pablo) that takes you on a sensual trip that begins in a forbidden rural area of northen Mexico and teleports you through time and space, exploring the boundaries of mambo, Afro, cumbia, Latin TV pop, psychedelia, and future dance.

Percussionist Raphael Geronimo has been an integral part of the Vancouver Latin and jazz scene for more than a decade, performing, teaching, writing and directing for many of the city’s best-loved groups. He leads Rumba Calzada, the powerhouse Latin, salsa, and Afro-Cuban band founded by his father in 1991.
Michael Laycock launched Worldbeat Sessions in March 2015 and has shared the stage with some of the city’s best selectors of global grooves (including DJs Evo, Hubbz, Bassos Rancheros, Lady Ra, Nils, Su Comandante, and Tasteoftee). In late 2014, he wrapped up a decade-long run as co-producer of Electropical (with DJ Marc Fournier), an acclaimed monthly worldbeat dance party.
