Beat the winter blahs with two great gigs brought to you by the DJs behind Electropical.

fiesta_africana_27feb2016Join DJ Marc Fournier on Saturday, February 27 for another edition of Fiesta Africana.

“We’ll be celebrating Black History Month,” Marc says, “so the whole African diaspora will be represented in music (as much as 4 hours allows), including soukous, champetta, coupé décalé, kizomba, azonto, timba, etc.”

“And I’ll share the stage with two exceptional percussionists: Israel Toto Berriel and Yoro Noukoussi, with visuals by Tajah Olson.” Full gig details here.

worldbeat_sessions_flyer_Raul_Mar2016_v1And join DJ Michael Laycock (Electropical) and guest DJ Su Comandante (Kia Kadiri, The Reef, Highlife Records, and more) on Saturday, March 19 for the first-anniversary edition of Worldbeat Sessions — a night of danceable global grooves.

To celebrate the first year of Worldbeat Sessions, Michael and “Su Co” will go global — from Barcelona to Bogotá, Dakar to Delhi, salsa to soukous, and electronic to funk — as they explore the grooves they have in common. And the supremely talented Yoro Noukoussi will bring the percussion to life. Full gig details here.

Both events happen around 10 pm (when the play ends next door) at the Backstage Lounge, 1585 Johnston St, Granville Island. Groups are always welcome!

Please do spread the word, and see you on the dance floor!
